I have been suffering with migraine headaches ever since I can remember. They have always been treated with prescription medication that just enables me from driving and functioning normal in my everyday activities . Over the counter medication just didn’t work for me.
About a year ago I stared researching essential oils and the benefit of aromatherapy. I started trying different oil blends and found something that has really worked for me. The benefits of the essential oils used are below.
Lavender – is used to relieve stress and anxiety, also used to relieve migraine headaches that are triggered by stress.
Rosemary- is used to treat headaches and improve circulation. There was a study from 2008 that suggests rosemary has pain killing and anti-inflammatory properties. It is also may ease stress.
Peppermint- it also provides relief from stress, depression and mental exhaustion due to the refreshing nature. It can help with anxiety and headaches. It can also lessen symptoms such as nausea and vomiting due to sensibility of noise and light.
Frankincense- combats negative emotions and lift the spirit. Helps with stress and can help with your mood.
Wintergreen-the most popular benefit is pain relieving effects which can help with headaches as well as muscle cramps and joint pain.
Eucalyptus- Like peppermint, eucalyptus can be soothing for stress headaches. It can also soothe and relax muscles and clear nasal passages.
Here is the recipe of the essential oils I use for migraine.
30 drops of Peppermint
30 drops of Lavender
10 drops of Rosemary
10 drop of eucalyptus
10 drops of Frankincense
10 drops of Wintergreen
Put in one 10ml glass roller. Top off with carrier oil of choice. I used grape seed oil. You can also use oils such as extra virgin olive oil, jojoba oil or almond oil. Rub on temples, top of forehead, brain stem and back of neck.
